My LPS recommended Mondo Grass to me...has anyone else ever had it in his/her tank(s)? What do you think about it?

What does it look like? The aquarium 'grasses' I know are lilaeopsis, sometimes known as Micro Sword, and eleocharis which is hairgrass. Both are easy to grow.

I posted a picture of it above...it just looks like long grass...

Mondo grass isn't a true aquatic plant and will start dying soon. If I were you I would take it out and put into a pot in the window sill it would do better.

I've had that grass-like thing before and didn't like it at all. It didn't do too greatly and is generally uninteresting with quite tough hard edged leaves. I wouldn't have it in with a betta personally.

It also isn't mondo grass. That's definitely a terrestrial plant. We have loads of it in my garden. If you want a nice grass for the aquarium, try Hairgrass or Dwarf Hairgrass, or even Vallis as that is pretty easy to grow and very grass-like in it's appearence. It also comes in twisted form. Aponogentons are also very nice. Aponogenton Crispus is very commonly available and it grows well and even flowers under low light. Mine always have. It's long leaves are nice for bettas to rest on too.

If it's a terrain grass then why would they be selling it in a tank at the LPS?

And i'm pretty sure it's called Mondo Grass...just google it.

Not a true aquatic but according to some of the info that I found on the web (don't know how reliable it is) it can do quite well in the aquarium.

Mondo Grass

Many LFS's sell things they know little about ( this sadly includes a fair few fish species too ) . They are there to make a profit, not care. If what you saw was genuine Mondo then it definitely isn't aquatic. That I promise you. It does ok in slightly boggy conditions, such as near ponds in the shade, and like many bog and semi aquatic plants, it can survive for a while submerged, but will die eventually. One of my LFS's sells a type of weird lily that is semi aquatic. It looks much like a houseplants with it's stripy leaves but is not a true aquatic.

Mondo grass is NATURALLY emersed, but CAN grow immersed. I had horrible luck with it, but a friend of mine with good lighting and CO2 grew it quite well in his tank. In fact he reported a lot of new growth in just a weeks time. Perhaps CO2 is absolutely necessary in this plant that's so used to the ''atmosphere''. Personally I think it looks better outside of McDonalds.

As Honeythorn previously stated, I would worry about the edges being to sharp and rigid for your Betta. That stuff is very similar to Sawgrass...

Never thought of it to be harmful...

Dont those recommendations require quite a bit of proper lighting though?
