Molly Trying To Mate?

Is my male molly trying to get it on with the female? Hes really harrassing her, and sticking his top fin up in the air all the time like this!

Looks alot like it! Mine used to do that to just about every fish in the tank even if it was a bottom feeder! He's showing her how big his fin is and trying to impress her. Is he pointing his gonopodium to the side while near her?

He will pay close attention to a female and display his huge sail fin when he is interested in mating. If you only have a single female, the constant attention can become too much. That is why we recommend at least 2 or 3 females to each male when livebearers are kept in small numbers.

ah ok - would it be a good idea then to get another female? she does seem to be a bit stressed, she was hiding in the platy bush earlier

At least two and preferably 3 females would make things much easier for the fish hiding in the "platy bush".
