I bought a molly about 3 days ago, when I first bought it I thought it was a girl. Now it chases around my males. I compared it to my other females and the only diffrence is that it's anal fin is a little more pointed than there's. so, this has gotten me really confused :S can someone help me?

Does the anal fin still have a fan shape? Or is it totally pointed?

If it still has a fan shape, it's a girl. Some just have more pointy ones. Any way you could get a picture, just so you could get a sure-fire answer? :)

If the anal fin is more pointy it could be that that fish is making the change into a male. This usually happens at about 80% of adult size but in some cases it can happen later.

Well I found out today that it's a boy because he started fighting with my other male. So i moved him to a different tank, where he should be happier :)

Some females can be aggressive too, so you can't always go by that. :) However, this time it sounds right.

Glad to hear it's sorted.

I have a molly that seems to have changed sex in the past month because it was definately a female now it is DEFINATELY A MALE. I didn't have any other male mollies in the tank and i have heard of fish changing sex in a one sexed inviornment but it is VERY RARE. it might have just been me seeing it wrong though.

How old was this Molly? If less then a year, it was probably a late-developing male. :) Other then that, Mollies can't change sex. Regular Mollies, anyway.

By the way, welcome back Blitztidus. Good to have you back. :D

It is a mixed sailfin molly. It was one of the first i got when i restarted my livebearer breeding system. I have since the last time i was on, gotten a new betta (female), a balloon molly, 2 swordtails, and 2 platies. my tank has plenty of room and they are all best friends.

Okay, but how old? And does it have a sailfin, or no?

Your new fish sound nice, too. What size tank? And I'm sure you are planning on getting more Swords and Platies, unless they are all females, right?

no more swords and platies some are males but 2 females to every male. The tank is about 75 or a little bigger. All my fish are happy and actually school in a way. the angels stay by the angels and the livebearers stick together
