I went on a website called Thinkfish and used the community creator to ensure that molly's would be compatible with Neons and it didnt report any problems.

I also consulted a member of staff in my local aquatic centre who also advised Neon's and Molly's would be absolutely fine.

But to my horror I bought 5 small Neon Tetra's placed their bag in my tank of 8 Molly's for 20minutes to get used to the water tempreture, and then released them into my tank, only to have one of the molly's bite on of the Neon's tail right off!!!! Then I had a mad panic of trying to distract the other Molly's with some fish food whilst I tried to rescue my remaining 4 Neons!

Does anyone know why this happened? I certainly feed my fish enough, so its not because they were starving! It was really horrific and I feel terrible and annoyed after recieving poor advice!! :-(

Hey there and welcome to the forums :) Sounds like you didnt have a good start in this hobby, sorry for that!
I think you'll get more answers when posting in one of the other sections here, I'm not sure where it should be posted in, I think emergencies or general would do well. I have heard of mollies showing this behavior before, quite often actually. I think you're best of not keeping any small fish in with them. Mind me asking what size tank you have as well? It might be territorial problems, though I really think its just their nature

I have a 65 litre tank, and there are about 8 mollies. I'm not putting anything in that tank except mollies i want to get the dalmatian mollies if thats what they are called.

But the remaining 4 tetras are safe now in my other halfs dads tank :D

One thing i have learned is that you have to accept that not all fish get along even if people say certain species will get on with other species. Its just down to the fish itself how it behaves. Its just life. :/
