They simply swim side by side, the male has a special shaped fin called a gnopdium which he uses to direct sperm into the female.

I saw it in a porno about livebea....urm ignore that :*)

ok they did go side by side but then they sorta started humping each other  it kinda got ruff! :( but they are fine! they are now seperated becouse she was alredy preg so shes in the birthing tank! and hes with my other 2 females

I dont know how much different mollys are to swordtails, but my swords play alot before mating. They chase eachother and sort of do a dance before he sneaks up beside her to mate. Could they just be playing? Sandy

AND SHE KEPT SWIMMING AWAY HIDEING! but now they cant do that becouse she back in the birthing tank and hes in the tank that the birthing tank is floteing in!

I have a guppy that does that when she is getting ready to have babies. She lets him know that she wants nothing to do with him by nipping at him. I would keep her in the trap and give her some time to relax. I guess that all of us are alike during birth, we feel horrible. and dont really want some at that moment. Adleast I know that was the firthest thing from my mind on the labor table. Good luck and keep us posted. Sandy

Just wanted to say that adleast the male seems to be having a good time in there. My hubby says its not fair that they get more than 1 woman. I told him it is not a subject he wants a woman to start on. Good luck Sandy

yes he is very happy in the tank with 3 lovely girls! hes mated with 2 so far! mango the soon to be mother and marble who is preg but not as fat as mango! he doesnt see to like my new black 1 so much! he just leaves her alon not mateing with her! B) but she still hangs out with them!

I was wondering what plans do you have for the fry? My first swordtail birth was over 45 babies. I was overcrowded with 1 labor. I set them up in a 10 gallon breeding tank for now and they are only about 3 weeks old and she is looking like she is going to do it to me again. :hyper:
I know that you said that you have a breeder box for her, but if you dont put her in there, some of her fry may get eaten by her and other tank members. I dont know how fish experienced you are, but the fry are hard to catch. I gave up on trying to catch them with a net, i personally use my turkey baster. It is one of my favorite fish tools. If you suck up the water close to them, they go right in and then you can squirt them into the box. Makes it easier on me than trying to get the net around all of my plants in there. i also use it to pick up any extra food in the tank. If you need any more help, just aks, i am sure everyone here is willing to help. Good luck, Sandy
