My Dalmation Molly has been gasping for 24 hours now ever since I got back from my weekend trip. I left a friend to feed him and I have a feeling maybe he was fed too much. It looks like there is food logged in his mouth.

Help :(

Good grief
Ok have you checked the water stats? What are they? We'll get your fishy sorted ;)

Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 10
ph 7.6

The only other thing I can think of is they had two rounds or prazi pro back to back but with 40% water changes inbetween. I just did a 30-40% water change this past saturday. There could be some residual prazi in there because I have no carbon in there. I am not sure if prazi disappates on its own.

BUMP

He is still doing the same thing. Anybody have any ideas?

Did you top up the prazi after you did the water change? What were you treating them for then? How far apart were the doses, and did you finish the course, and see any improvement in the fish?
As far as i know, no medication just disipates, and you need carbon in there, and a water change to help things along.

I did a 30% wc and dosed prazi, 5-6 days later 30-40% wc and then dosed again, 6-7 days later 30% wc. Now behavior as seen in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2nuq34wysc&feature=youtube_gdata

kind of blurry but I think it shows what he is doing.

I treated for parisites. His friend died 2 weeks ago from internal parisites so i treated the whole tank for them.

I will add some carbon to help remove the prazi.

Thanks for helping :)

I have been looking at him some more and it looks like the caudel region is really thin just like the last one that died.

Was he like that at the start of the prazi treatment? do you know what your oxygen levels are? temp?

I dont think he was as skinny as he is now, I am not too familiar with this type os fish so I am not sure how skinny they should be. I posted a picture of them a while back when I had another problem and members said they looked skinny. I dont know the o2 levels and am not sure how to measure that. There is a bubble wand with a pump rated for 20-30 gallon tanks supplying the tank. Temp is 76F

I had a few platys which got a narrow tail fin (is that what you mean, its just not spread out like normal?) when they were being treated for ich, so they had meds and a high temp in there. I couldnt really do a water change at the time, so i added lots of aeration, which seemed to help a bit.
Im not sure what causes that though - all i know is that when my fish are a bit under the weather then thats what happens. I wonder if googling it will come up with any answers?

Oh, i forgot to ask, does it still look like theres food in his mouth? Is it the colour of his food? Or another colour?

Yeah I think I will do a google search. I have another air pump the same I will install now I think, It couldnt hurt. Yeah its the tail region I mean like right after his belly right to the caudel fin. I just added some carbon. Thanks again :)

Im sorry i cant be of more help! I would recommend soaking his food in garlic, thats very good for fish in general, but helps sick fish enormously.
I hope oldman47 comes on soon, coz he is the livebearer man - maybe he can shed some light. :good:

Thanks. I only feed them livebearer flakes, peas sometimes. How do you mean by soaking in garlic? I have cloves of garlic.

yes oldman47 has been helpful before. and you have been so far too :)

quite probably, though i dont use it coz of the other scaleless fish i have in the tank. what else do you have in the tank? mollies love salty water :)
