Hey!

My Mollies/Guppies had babies this morning! I'm so excited as I've never had my fish breed before! I was stuck on idea's of what to do because I wasn't quite ready for this to happen.

(Quite a big edit!) - edited after responses from people (thank you)

After having mixed opinions from the helpful people for TFF I finally decided to remove the Fry from my secondry tank and put them back into the main tank but using a fly net! HA, (this is only part time until I go and get a breeder Net/Box or both!

the fry are now in this net in my Healthy cycled 5 month up and running tank!

I heard the first week is the hardest for fry, so I'm going to try my best.

any comments/advice are appreciated! :)

Hi Flexa,

I'll move your thread over to the Livebearers section. You are more likely to get the help you need there. Good luck with your fry.

I dont know much about undergravel filter, but your fry may get sucked into them??

I would leave the adults in your main tank and catch the fry has they're dropped, depending what the adults are like, they may end up eating them,if you have plenty of plants etc in the main tank, the fry will hide out from the other fish until you catch them.

Perhaps invest in a sponge filter which connects to an airpump which you can use in the 'fry tank' instead of the u/g filter.
Feed you wee fry on finely crushed flakes will be fine, there are products on the market for fry, tetramin baby food is available and i use it all the time, avoid liquidfry if you can this only polutes the water.

Good luck with your wee fry.

I'd of left them all in the main tank, they will breed again and again so don't worry about loosing some :).

Soon you will be over stocked with them and wish you never got them . Ahhhh the days of breeding guppys, mollys and sword tails :p

I have Barbs in my main tank, about 15 of them, they'll probably eat the lil' fry! and just recently, they've attacked my Mollies so I've been planning to move them out anyways! (I know don't put Mollies with Tiger Barbs)
I don't plan to ever again.

and I'm going to rush to the pet shop tomorrow and try get a sponge filter like you suggested.

I have some pretty nasty fish in my main tank :|

if the fish in the tank are what are giving birth they are Guppies, and will eat there own young

Keep an eye on the stats in the latest tank,i guess the filter wont be cycled therefore read up on fish in cycle in the beginners section(if you're not aware of it already).

I would suggest also getting a breeding net that hangs on the inside of the tank,to keep the fry in until they're big enough not to get munched by the mollies.

I had two, one died, the other must had babies shortly after, and very quickly they turned into 40 lol.
