Hi everyone,

Now that I have platy fry and 2 molly fry I was wondering if it is safe to place them together in the same area? The molly fry are 3 weeks old and the platy fry were born either last night or this morning! I have another platy that I assume will have her babies soon and my molly is pregnant still so I need at least 1 breeder box and I have both in use right now with babies.. LOL.. Or else is it possible to put the fry in a 1 gallon tank that doesnt have heat nor a filter? I dont know if that is safe for them though! I assume they need the heat and filter just like the other fish do!

Any thoughts on what my options are?

A 3 week old molly is the biggest fish I would want in a tank with a newborn platy. It would be better if you could wait a few days for the platies to grow a little but they won't need to get much bigger to be safe with the mollies.

I cant see a problem with them, the molly may peck at them but it should be to small to eat any of them

Providing the platys are too big to fit in the mouth of the molly fry they will be fine

Well I added the molly fry with the platy fry and everyone seems happy but me.. LOL.. I want more room for them other then that little breeder box.. So my hubby se tup a 55 gallon tank and said I could raise the babies in there until he is ready to get his evil fish!! LOL

Thanks so much for the advice!

I love the idea of a 55 for growing out fry. That is exactly what I did with all my molly fry. Now they are at about 9 weeks and are well over an inch long already. Don't forget lots of vegetable matter in the mix for those livebearers.
