Can anyone tell me how long it takes for the colour of baby mollies to develop? My mollies are a week old and some are sort of speckly grey, some are much lighter and almost translucent (mother was a black lyretail and bought from a mixed tank, so no idea about the father).

Also, when do the shape of their tails start to develop? None of them have lyretails yet...is this because they take a while to develop, or because the father might not have been a lyretail?

Sorry if these are basic questions, but I'm a newbie!

Baby mollies usually get their color within a few months. :)

I'm not sure when they get their tail shape, but I would guess that it develops as they get older.

Hope this helps! ;)

Thanks I guess I'll just have to wait and see how they turn out!

When I used to have Mollies one of my blacks from an entirely black tank gave birth to a mixed batch of speckled, black, and a few almost translucent fry--I expected that to change but they all grew up to be speckled, black, and translucent!
