I recently purchased 3 black female balloon mollies, and have since discovered small protruding furry-looking white balls scattered across the fishes' bodies. I am especially worried about one of them, as she seems to have one of these balls on her eye. Others are located on fins, scales and tail. Any help would be kindly appreciated. According to a book I have, it is most likely a fungal infection, but there are no visible woulds on the fish. I am also worried as I am nursing back to health in the same tank a male guppy with a torn tail. At the moment, however, he does not appear to be being affected.

It's either a fungal infection or ich/whitespot. Treat with an appropriate remedy, once you've worked out which it is your fish have.

I think it must be the former. I used to have neons with whitespot and this is very different. It's got better on one molly, worse on another and has gone from the third. It's started to grow on the first one's eyes.
