Hello all!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice I'm in need of some help. This has happened the past few times that I have had a pregnet mollie they always die during birth. I just got a new mollie 2 days ago she was already pregnet and this evening I noticed her at the bottom of the tank not moving to much. I immediately isolated her by using a separating net in the tank so the other fish couldn't bother her or eat any of the fri. She stayed at the bottom of the tank. Every once and awhile she would swim to another spot and stay there. This lasted for about 45 min then she stopped moving and died. No fri got out. This has happend to me about 3 times now. The first couple times my mollies gave birth no problem and lived afterwards so I don't understand exactly what's going on now. I'm not an expert by far. I'm really lost here can anyone give me some advice or tips?

Thanks so much!

It could be that using a net or breading bx is too stressful for them. My first Mlly gave birth a few days ago, i put her in the net as i wanted to save the fry and sadly she aborted the fry early and they were all dead. Another Molly gave birth the next day in the tank without being moved to a net and was fine, i fished the babbies out, a few may have been eaten but i would rather that then risk having dead fry and/or a dead molly. The best thing to do is as soon as you know she's pregnant is to move her to another tank until she gives birth (if you want to stop her getting harassed by the others and all the fry getting eaten).

Hi Tiffany, :hi: to the forum.

I'm going to bombard you with questions now so we can try and work out exactly what's going on with your poor fishies, so apologies in advance for that!

How big is your tank?

How long has it been set up and is it cycled?

What filtration do you have and how do you clean and maintain your filter?

Exactly what fish are in the tank?

Have you had the water tested at all (and if so can you post the results)?

How often and how large are your water changes?
