i heard that mollies can be maintained in a full saltwater aquarium if acclimates slowly. if thast true than would mollies be fine in a reef set up?

It is indeed true that Mollies can tolerate full marine. Ideally they should contain salt in their water. Many people use Mollies to cycle a new marine tank as they are cheap and quite expensive (cruel in my view). I would assume they could tolerate a reef setup because they won't eat the corals etc.

that sound like a cool thing to have in a reef tank. thanks for that bit of info. now i'll be thinkin more of possibly doing that

You could have mollies in a reef, but you have to ask the question of why?

There are so many fish that are better looking and more interesting to watch, why would you go to the (often considerable) expense of setting up a reef tank to then fill it with common community fish?

As I say, you can do it, but many consider there to be better fish out there to put in a reef.

Perhaps, but if you get into nano realms the range of SW fish means you'll end up with something more 'common'... if you see what I mean. Almost all nanos end up with something like clownfish, damsels, gobies etc- a SW molly is positively an oddball in SW terms.

ABSOLUTLY not im afraid although mollies need brackish water they wont be the least bit happy in a marine tank sorry but im just saving you a mollie!

plenty of fish can survive in marine if acclimitised properly, our lfs had a marine opaline gourami handed in once!

most livebearers like mollies and guppies will be perfectly fine in a marine tank.

have to agree with andy though, why you would want to do it is beyond me!

There is really not much point in adding mollies to a marine enviroment because
there are much nicer marine fish out there instead.

I agree that I wouldn't add mollies to a marine set-up but it is possible.... I have heard of lots of fish be adapted back and forth, but that goes without saying that it may take a while with more sensitive fish...... but either way it could be neat to have some smaller fresh/brackish sharks in a reek setting.... that is unless there are common species of marine that will grow about a foot at max.... but still! the possibilities! hahahaha!

I'm running a 7 gal nano....

I dont fancy "risking" an expensive SW fish only to find out the tank stats are'nt stable enough...

So far "Mo" is still doing great ;)
