I really love the looks of the white colored mollies and the really black mollies. I would like to have one of each in my 29 gallon tank. Are they okay with head and taillight tetras and a bristlenose pleco?

Do they need salt in their water?

I really don't want to breed mollies so would two boys get along?

Mollies like hard water, while tetras prefer soft. I suppose if you had a neutral pH it might be okay. Mollies also do well in salt but its not totally necessary so you can keep them without it 'cause the pleco won't like it. :D

Hi,

I have 2 black mollies and 3 neon tetras in my tank. They are perfectly fine together. Mollies do like a little salt in their water, but as long as you limit it to 1 tbsp per 5 gal, all the fish in the tank will be fine, including the pleco as I also used to have a pleco in mine (got too big for my tank so I had to give him away). I would be hesitant to have 2 male mollies together though as they may get territorial and not get along. My male and female are excellent companions though.

Well I want to have two males rather than 2 females and a male cuz I don't want to have any babies in the tank.

What in the world does everyone do with all the little fish that are created when you keep males and females together?

You can try 2 males if you want. I'd be afraid they would fight, but maybe they will be ok. Maybe you should ask your pet store. My molly has only had one batch of fry so far, and out of 9, 2 are still surviving. I talked to my local fish store before there were only 2 left, and they said they would take the fry so they could sell them once they got older.
