I've been researching mollies, mainly balloon mollies and dalmatian mollies all day today; searching threads here and on other Internet sources, the "Freshwater Fish Compatibility Tool" on ratemyfish.com, as well as the few books I have. The more I read, the more confused I am!! Even Dr. Axelrod's Handbook of Tropical Aquarium Fishes, what is said the be THE fish "Bible", is giving me conflicting information.

Bottom line though is...DO mollies, especially the balloon mollies and dalmatian mollies require salt in their aquarium water or will they be fine in my 37 gal. setup - current occupants listed in my signature.

Thanks...and please pass the Tylenol, my head's killing me from all this!!! ;)

no but they tend to like a little bit of aquarium salt.

You are right this time grimmy, mollies actually like a little bit of salt, but it isnt necessary. If you dont have any aquarium salt on you right now, you dont have to worry about it because they will do fine in a full freshwater tank too.

Yip, agreed 100%. Mollies will be perfectly happy in freshwater, but they will thrive in mild brackish water. They will even happily tolerate full saltwater marine conditions. :good:

THANK YOU...all of you...so much!! I am so relieved right now, you have no idea, honestly.

And Grimmy...way to go, I'm proud of ya! lol
