Do green mollie fry change colour? The ones in the fry tank are now golden!

The mother of the fish was pregnant when we got her so we don't know what the father is. The fry were dark when born, but are more golden now, so will they turn green later on?

Are black mollie babies black when they're born?

One of our Silver mollie males is aggresive to the green male mollie, he chases it to the back of the tank and goes in for the kill. We have put the silver one in a breeding net for two days until the green one found his feet in the tank. When the silver one was given his freedom, he went straight back to chasing the silver one into the corners. Agressive mollies? Thought they were all peaceful :/

kitty,

As far as the color of the fry, most fish fry tend to go through some changes in color during there developement stages. Sometimes some fish species young through serious color changes and others less noticeable changes.
Not knowing the daddy makes it even more a mystery. ;)
Black mollies fry normally by what I have seen are born Black / dark grayish. depending on parent colors.

Now, aggressive ...... Even though a species of fish can or is thought / believed to NOT be aggressive it can still have or display aggressive behavior. Especially if there are mutiple males with multiple females. The males or male is fighting for turf and breeding rights. He doesn't want to share the girly fish so feels that by eliminating the second or other male the females are all his.

Was one introduced later ? If so was the tank somewhat rearranged ? Or any new decor added?

When adding new fish to an astablish tank of inhabitants you want to make some changes to the landscape / decor. This gives both new fish and existing inhabitants an equal chance at turf claiming. And in most cases saves future headaches like this one.

what you may want to do is as follows. remove or catch the aggressor, re-arrange the tank meaning redo caves, move around palstic plants if any, make some changes to the layout. Once this is done give the male that is still loose ( the whimp) time to get settled in a bit. They let loose the heavy weight.
Keep an eye on them because sometimes this may turn the tables and the aggresor may now become the victim.

Good Luck, keep us a posted.

Danny

ps. If it continues, I put my $$$ on the silver molly. J/K :D :D
