hey people, i was wondering if i could just leave the mollie fry in a breading net in my tank.?
coz they are just born i have them in a fishing net in my tank and they are safe there. but how long u reckon it will take for them to get big enough? They can be kept there for a while so they grow a bit and you can make sure they get fed, but in my experience, when you release them, they don't know to hide from the adult fish and are a quick snack if they are not large enough not to fit in the mouths of the adults. Normally a batch of fry in a breeding net should be released from the net due to crowding before they're big enough to not be eaten by full grown adults.
It takes about two months to get large enough not to get eaten, depending on their rate of growth, which can be influenced by temperature and feeding of nutrient rich foods. This is a generality though. I always overestimate, because I've been wrong in the past and seen fry snacked on by adults.
