About 3 days ago (after about an hour or two of soaking in hot water) I added 2 pieces of small mapani wood to my aquarium. The next day one of the pieces was covered in a clear-whitish-slimy substance. I asked my LFS and they said that it was most likely mold that grew from a dormant spore on the wood. So I took the piece out and boiled it but - to my horror - it is back! I have scrubbed and boiled it extensively but it will not go away. It is on the lighter wood of a two-tone piece but not the other bogwood and not the dark part of the one.
1. What is it?
2. Is it safe?
3. Will it go away naturally?
4. How can I make it go away if not?
Many thanks,
Larissa
