I asked this on the tetra thread, but didn't get a reply, so I just thought since this is my first tank ( well I did have one betta for my daughter a few years ago ) I would ask here too. Last week I added my first fish, 1 albino cory, 1 albino paradise, 2 gold pristella tetras, 2 cherry barbs, and a false bandit cory ( cory melini). I am going to add several more corys, I am still trying to find out if it's ok to mix corys. I really want a wild one or two. I did get a couple suggestions on that, that they do better with their own kind. My question on the tetras was similar. Should I get 3 or 4 more of the gold pristellas, or can I get a different kind of tetra, like cardinals or black tetras. I read that tetras should be kept in groups of 5 or more so they can shoal. btw, what is the difference bet. schooling and shoaling? pics taken, will post later tonight. Thank you!

You can keep many Tetra's together. I have 6 different species in one tank alltogether. But it is still recommended you keep a shoal of each species as they sometimes don't tend to cross species shoal.

My Cardinal's, Neon's and Glowlights shoal together. My Black Phantom's shoal independantly, so do my Rummy Nose and Buenos Aires.

So first i'd get more Pristella's, then consider a different shoal.

James.

I cannot speak for tetras as I don't have any yet in my tank but they are my next purchase, but I do have 5 albino corys and 5 peppered corys and they shoal together ok. Not sure if this is the same with all corys (I have read that they do shoal together across varities), but I chose just to go with two types as I prefer larger quantities of few varieties, than lots of ones and twos of many types of fish.
