I'm trying to mix 55g potassium sulfate with 500ml of water. I can't get the fert to mix with the water. whats wrong? Am I mixing too much? According to chucks calculator its ok.

Just mix it as much as you can, it should be alright as some add the dry ferts right into the water.

I had similar problems with KNO3 and know of other's who've had similar problems.

If you are mixing up solutions using chucks calc and you are finding that the amount of dry fert will not totally dissolve in the amount of water, I find it easier to double the volume of water (250ml upto 500ml), this makes a solution at half the strength you were originally after .... you then just up the dose accordingly. You can always store any leftover solution until you need it.

Sorry a little funny :p .

Adding dry ferts is usually fine, but not always as accurate when dosing into small tanks where you may have to measure out tiny amounts of dry fert 1/32 of a teaspoon or less.
Making up a solution can be more accurate and a more convenient way to dose, especially if using bottles with a pump doser on (I use old ADA fert bottles with a 1ml per push dosage pump).

If you just mix 'as much as you can' then you can't be sure how much you are dosing daily/weekly.

K2SO4 is soluble at 11.1g/100ml so you are just on the borderline. Add in the impurities (because we do not get pure) and yes, you'll get residual. Use more water or just do what I do, throw dry ferts in the tank. Doesn't do any harm.
