Hey, I am a complete novice but really want to get into keeping tropical fish. I have picked up a 15 gallon hexagonal tank and have decorated it with a sand bed (1 inch at front - 3 at back) a couple of rocks and a few plants. As can be expected, on the first day the water was very misty. The filter seemed to clear up most of the worst mess. I have added dechlorinator and a chemical to increase the bacterial growth rate in my filter.

However, there is still a very faint white/grey haze. The water is no way as clear as the tanks at my local store or the photos I see from people on this forum.

Do any of you guys have any suggestions - I did clean the sand by the way.

Also, if you have any comments on my set-up etc please let me know, I am a little concerned that I may have bought a tank thats a bit small, also advise on how many fish and what types would be good. I wanted to keep angel fish but I think due to the tank size I'm better off keeping with tetras.

Just some things to kep you busy if your bored at work like me :D

The misty water is just a bacterial bloom and IMO can last several days then disapear then re-appear..Its very normal and nothing to worry about.

Angels will be too big for a 15 gallon especially when they grow to around 6ins :-( Tetras and other small fish would be much happier in the tank.

As for how many fish you should keep..here is a little tool that will help you work it out but rememer small fish grow so take their fully grown size as a measure
