Hey this is just a quick question. I have a Japanese Algae Eating Shrimp and I was looking through the tank just to do a quick check today and noticed something. It looked like the molt from the shrimp was floating around in the tank. So, after taking it out, I looked to see if I could find him. I've looked under every decoration and inside all the little holes and he's nowhere to be found. I'm afraid he may have died or something. All the testing came out fine in the tank. I have three platies and one black mystery snail in there as well. Could one of the platies have killed him when he molted? I noticed ball of something strange in the tank so I took that out as well. I'm afraid that was the remains of him. It wasn't clear though. I just need to know what could have possibly happened. Like I said, I looked in the entire tank and could not see him anywhere. I don't know what else could have happened to him.

You are meant to leave the molt in the tank. They will eat it to regain some of the minerals to harden the new one.

When molting the shrimp is vulnerable, and they will hide until they become hard. Get some coconut caves to give them hiding places.
