Missing Fish

I have 5 Yoyo loaches along with a bunch of others fish,

I have only counted 4 for the past week. My water stats are fine which i guess is a good thing.

I want to take the bogwood out to make sure it isnt hiding anywhere,but it could literally be inside of it as there are multiple holes throughout it. There are also some fresh tendrils from plants growing onto the bog wood which i would like to grow.

I have read yoyos and loaches in general are master hiders, am i being paranoid?

If the fish is dead somewhere, how can I tell, will my water stats change? I want to get it out if it is dead incase of disease but what will happen if I dont take it out?

any help would be appreciated

Loaches hide loads all the time Ive been there and I know the panic If the fish is dead you would have an ammonia spike or nitrite spike depending on when they died.

How big is your tank?

You may or may not notice a spike in your stats if the fish is indeed dead somewhere depending on how big / mature your tank is.

I personally would not strip the tank to discover ait as it will be more hassle than its worth, chances are if its dead the other tank occupants will have eaten it by now and it has become part of the 'cycle'

Hope you find it alive and well at some point, I have a 260l tank which is VERY heavily planted with lots of rock and wood also and my 2 botia loaches are not seen for weeks at a time also my 2 skunk cories and bronze corie dissapear for long periods then re-ammerge dancing up the front of the tank.

the tank is 160 litres, so its fairly big.

Thats what I am really hoping for, I just get nervous. I swear I have seen them lying belly up on the substrate and then being normal again, one of mine sat in the same place for like 2 hours then attacked a snail, they are so strange lol

they also seem to squeeze into the tightest of holes

Yeah loaches get into all kinds of odd places and positions I dont think anyone sent them the memo about only lying on your back when your dead. Saying that though Ive had loads of plecs that fall asleep upside down just above the gravel, then loose suction and lye on the substrate on their back for a while

Also I once bought a piece of wood from an LFS from a store tank and I got 2 clown loaches in there when I got home, luckily it was only a 5 min journey and the bag had a little water in so they made it home, took them back though lol
