i have a beta in my community tank for nearly a month but a few days ago one of my guppys disappeared. could the beta have eaten it? i cant work out where else it could have gone unless it accidently got sucked out during water change which i dont think happened.

The Betta may well have attacked it but he'd only eat it if it had died. When a fish dies, it sometimes doesn't take long for other fish to devour the body.
Bettas and Guppies together are generally a no-no as the Betta will attack the Guppies as they are similar looking. Keep a very close eye on them and make sure you have a spare tank to put your Betta in if things don't work out.
What other fsih do you have in the tank and what size is it?

stang is right. if a small fish dies the others just eat it within an hour or so. they are not fussed!

70l with beta corys guppys Siamese Algae Eater and danios. it was a healthy guppy so do you think he might have killed it cos dont think it died. also hope she wasnt accidently flushed with the water change.

Ther's a good chance that the Betta did attack it. They can be very aggressive with Guppies because they are similar and see them as a threat. Danios are also prone to fin nipping so may nip at your Betta and Guppies.
To be honest, you would be best buying a seperate tank for your Betta as they are happy enough on their own.

solved the missing fish part. done a big clean on the tank today and found dead guppy behind rock :rip: .

we added the beta, guppys and siamese algae eater together. previous to this there was no fin nipping between the danios but since they were added a few of the danios and one guppy have been niped. the beta has not been niped at all and does seem happy in the tank, he even eats from my hand. who do you think is most lightly doing the niping.
