Lonnnggg story short.

Added 2 dwarf gourmais to my tank 1 month ago. This is when problems started. One didn't seem well from the beginning (hid and didn't eat), dies 2 weeks later. Then notice this week one danio has popeye and torn tail fin. Go to store and get amoxicillan caps 250mg. Put in tank, dead next morning...later that day a dead mollie (never acted ill).

My gourmai still alive has a big spot on his head where a mean mollie kept biting him. Got rid of the mollie. I'm not positive if the sore is entirely from the mollie or a disease and the mollie was attacking him there. Doesn't show any other symptoms other than he is constantly scanning tank walls like he wants out and seems restless.

I haven't continued the medication as 2 died and now I'm scared of it. I am thinking maybe I should though. Can my 2 danios and pictus catfish catch somthing from the gourami ? What can it be ? Danios and catfish seem fine....though it is hard to get a good look at the danios as they swim fast almost constantly.

If I start the medication again....can I just turn off the filter and turn up the bubbler for overnight for agitation ? Directions say to remove carbon as it will absorb meds. I just put a new filter on, it is an AquaClear power filter. it has a sponge, carbon insert, as well as a Biomax insert for beneficial bacteria. If I remove carbon....can I put it back in later or do I need to buy another one ?

10 gallon tank
2 zebra danios
1 dwarf gourami
1 polka dot pictus catfish
temp 78
nitrite 0
ph 6.8-7.0

It is often common for gourami's to die with no signs sometimes because they are prone to bacterial infections. As when they are bred and raised they are raised in water that contains bacterial medications. Once they leave their breeding grounds and are shipped to the store some do not make it because they no longer have the bacterial medication.

How does their poo seem?
What's your ammonia and nitrate readings?

I only have test kit at this moment for nitrite and ph. I need to go get more. I've never seen their poo (gourami)...I did one time see a long strand, almost clear, thought it may be eggs. Excuse my ignorance on that part. Zebras poo seems normal, only seen a couple times.

Should I continue with the antibiotic ? I don't think I should unless really necessary. I do have some Anti-bacterial medicated fish food made by Jungle. Does anyone know if that works ? Can I use that instead ?

Also, when I bought the gouramis I also bought frozen cubes of brine shrimp. Give once in a while as a treat. Is that okay ?

Gourami seems calmer when I turn the light off. His wound looks a bit better but is dark around the edges, healing ?

Do their fins seemed to be nipped or torn up or frayed at the edges at all? Other then the danio you had die?
