Minimum Tank Size For Discus

what is it? Not for me, for my boss.

Also, do they need to be in shoals? Water parameters?

Well, discus can get to be 8 inches across, so I'd say minimum 300L tank, probably more - that's 4-5 foot.

They definitely prefer shoals as far as I'm aware, and need very good water quality - low pH, high temp (28oC min, pref more like 30-32 or even higher), excellent filtration and twice-weekly water changes. And careful selection of tank mates.

minimum starting tank for discus would be 55g with a group of 6 fish . waterchange schedule depends really on the size fish you get , for juveniles daily is ideal , but for adults this can be reduced . i change 25% every other day . diet is important with discus , they require a higher protein diet , with around 3 feedings per day ( slightly more for juveniles) . tankmates should be peacefull and able to handle the higer temperatures , cardinal tetras are most commonly used .

yes they are gorgeous fish , altho not as hard as their reputation , they are a fish that require a certain level of experience and commitment. they are not for a lazy keeper as they are not forgiving of mistakes. however provide their basic needs and they are not as hard as people make out .

My boss used to keep fish years ago, he almost qualified as a marine biologist.
