Hi all,

This may be a bit of a stupid question :)

are there any types of mini Cichlid's that can be kept in a 60L tank?

Depending on footprint - yes. The South American Dwarfs are what you are after :) Thinks like Laetacaras and Checkerboard Cichlids are ideal but a few of the smaller species of Apisto would work but would need a bit of sourcing to get the right ones.

There are other dwarfs like Rams, Nanacaras etc but I think these need a bit bigger to thrive.

apisto,s maybe,I kept a pair of triple reds in a fluval edge smaller than 60 ltr and they spawned a couple of times, maybe bolivians if you can get a bonded pair

I would not recommend Bolivian rams for a 60 litre tank.

That's Great! :)

The footprint is 18" x 14"

I like the look of the Bolivian, South American Dwarfs and the Apisto's.

Ideally i would like to just have one large rock full of nooks and cranny's at the back of the tank

Where is the best place for me to do some research into dwarf cichlids?

A pair of Tanganyikan shell dwellers could definitely work in a 60l, experienced Tanganyikan keepers like Kiriyama may say a pair of Julidochromis or a pair of Lamprologus caudopunctatus could work too.

Another African option, this time riverine, is Nanochromis transvestitus. These guys aren't the easiest to keep and pair often have a love/war relationship, but beautiful darf cichlids they are.

Have a look on the BCA site, British Cichled Association, all the info you might need there, maybe Bolivians might not be such a good idea ,but Apisto,s ,at the moment i,ve got three ,1 male 2 females Agazzizi,s in a 90ltr the females live at either end of the tank and they get along fine

Thanks all for the feedback,

Would I be able to create a small mixed community (say 3 pairs), or with this sized tank do i really need to stick to a single species?

A tank that small I would stick to single species, lots of Apistos to choose from, triple reds and agazizzi are the ones I have kept and I think they are smashing little fish
