min tank size for a pair of cockatoos?

They really should be kept as a trio - minimum, in order to fully appreciate these fish. A 20gal long as Dwarf suggested would be ideal, but bigger is certainly better. I suppose one could keep a pair or a single male in a smaller tank but I would advise against it.
 
Even a single male needs some exploring room - a 5g is not really acceptable for any cichlid, even if they do 'fit'. Plus everything Griz said.
 
Don't the females get all territorial with each other and form a sort of hierarchy within the group if there is more than one?
