Ok there I was stareing into my molly tank when I saw this little fishy. It was black so I started to watch it for several days. I could not find any other babies so I asumed that Millie would have more so far no have come up.

Also I bought a breeding net only to raise L.B.T you know the little black baby fishy. Oh by the way L.B.T meens little black thing... is that not cute? Of course I will give him a proper name when he grows up. Any who He eats crushed up blood worms and he is only 2 cm long!!!! HE IS SOOO CUTE!!!!! Do you think I could keep him in that tank with the others when he grows up with out any problems???

claire

Congrats on the fry :)
What other fish do you have in the tank?
Your molly probably gave birth to more fry than that but they were probably eaten. At 2cm long i suspect he's at least a week old; The best foods for him right now would be TetraMinfry or "first bites" by hikari as all bloodworms offer is protein and he will need more nutrition than that to grow up healthily.

I have all sailfin mollies in that tank. Are you sure he is a week old cause his mom is big and would that not make him bigger to?

claire

If there just sailfins he should be fine; release him back into the main tank when he's bigger enough not to fit into other fish's mouths.
Its posible he's new born i suppose if your molly female is fully mature and was only expecting a couple of fry but he's still a big baby but either way thats not important.
Check out the livebearer article for more info on raising fry if you like :)

So can I keep him in with the other mollys with out worrying about the tank size. The mollys live in a 20 gallon and I have 6 right now.

claire

Hm, actually i wouldn't put anymore mollys in a 20gal- technically you still have some stocking space left but mollys need alot of space in comparison to say guppys or platys; he'll be fine in there at this stage but i would rehome him or one of your other mollys when he's reachs the half grown stage.

....you can keep him in there until he's half grown. Then you will have to rehome him or one of the other mollys as there won't be enough space for them.

I don't want to get a new tank so do you think I should cull one of my mollies? I have oscars so they are an option of disposal.

claire

No, when i say "rehome" i mean find him a new home i.e give him to your lfs or friend who has fish and knows how to look after them properly and has the space for him.

oh ok, Darn I wish I could keep the little guy. He is soo cute. Maybe I could give him to one of the pet stores around here. And if he ends up growing into a more lovely fish than some of my other mollies than I could give them away instead. I think that sound like a plan don't you?

claire :D ;)  B) -_- :) :hyper:

P.S if L.B.T is black now will he be black when he grows up?? He also has a little bit of white on his body so he ends up looking like an oreo. I think That is what his/her name will be when he/she grows up. I just remember that it is imposible to sex fry! :*)

will L.B.T be the same color when he grows up? Black with white middle like an oreo?

claire

ya he is a biggie huh. I am sure that he is only 4 days old since I have not had millie even for a week!
