I've managed to find the courage to give fish keeping another go after the horrific result of my first [topic="173935"]attempt[/topic] (in essence, a faulty Juwel heater overheated the tank - resulting in killingall my fish).
After removing all of the contents after the malfunction and throwing away all Juwel parts, I left the tank empty for 4 weeks (perhaps coming to grips with what happened). I have decided not to use any Juwel equipment in the future. I've ordered an external tetratec ex1200, a Nutrafin CO2 diffuser and a Visitherm Thermometer.
The tank needed cleaning, as it had a few algae spots on the front and sides of the tank from it's previous use. After excellent advice from fenwoman, I attacked my tank with white vinegar and a soft scouring pad. A couple of hours later, and a few rinses too..it has come out quite well.
Prior Cleaning. (Below)
Post Cleaning. (Below).
The white vinegar managed to remove all of the algae (some parts being more reluctant than others) and a wallpaper scraper managed to remove all of the previous silicone from the previous tanks setup (i.e. the old background).
I'm going to rinse the tank out a few more times before I start with the new filter etc. Stay tuned for updates!
P.s. Thank you for the help so far from those who have supplied their input.
