Migrating Goldfish From Tank To Pond?

Hi

I have 2 fan tailed goldfish in a small tank in my sons bedroom. Since getting myself a tropical tank and learning more about keeping fish am now starting to feel guilty about the size of the tank they are in. My sons are now also more interested in my tropical tank so I want to give the goldfish a better life but can't afford a bigger tank for them (and if I could the wife wouldn't let me buy one anyway)
My friends dad has a nice pond in his back garden with some koi carp and what a think are some large goldfish. I haven't asked him if I can yet but if I were to transfer my goldfish to his pond, would they be ok in there, and what would be the best way to introduce them?

I'm afraid fantails can't live in a pond all year in the UK, it gets too cold for them to overwinter outside They also don't do well with 'normal' goldfish or koi; being such poor swimmers, they easily get outcompeted for food.
