its one problem after another :'( if its not my tank its my pond, ive got one poor baby oranda been attacked by a frog then my betta was ill now the bettas attacked a WCMM and bitten off his tail so the others have seen his weakness and are bullying him, then my tanks going through a mini cycle. what the hells going on :( i feel asif everythings going wrong!!! I thaught i was giving them a good life and its all going to pot!! :| i dont think i have much more patience left, i cant stand to see animals suffer and i feel like all ive done is made them suffer :/

Hang in there. I am going through my own personal fish nightmare and was saying the same thing today. I have been in tears for a month and I'm not finding any answers. I think it will get better for both of us!

I just really cant beleive what im going through with it, I mean ive got this poor little wcmm and its swimming about with no tail and i just dont know what to do with it!! I really respect people who have really big tanks, it must take so much to get them how they are!! I really hope your right and things get better for us because i really cant take much more :(:(:( do you have any suggestions of what i can do with my WCMM? because i dont know wether to leave it in or take it out, it is eating fine and swimming perfect (considering the circumstances!!!) they have all seemed strange lately aswell like staying to the top like they are scared of my betta, when i first got them they all came to my hand and fed from my hand but theres no chance now :(

What is a WCMM ?
White cloud mountain minnow.

Do as Dorie says "Just keeping swimming!" My 2 big tanks have been suffering a worm attack for a month now but not going to let it get me down! And you can too! Just remember this is a hurdle and once passed you can go for the GOLD, your tanks will prosper, minnow babies, splendiferous finnage on your betta and your pond will steal the limelight from all on your block :)

Hi Liz - having patches of 'disaster' seems to be part of the 'joys' of fishkeeping from what I've experienced and read - hope you hold in there!

if you have somewhere to put the minnow, take him out if he's being picked on. If his tail fin has been bitten off, it may heal just with super clean water. Keep a good eye on it to see that infection isn't setting in. Post again (in emergencies) for help if you are concerned that it's getting infected.

I don't have minnow experience. In my limited understanding, if part of his body has been bitten off as well, he probably won't grow his tail end back and you may have a tough decision to make BUT someone who knows minnows may say otherwise and be able to help more if this has happened.

As your betta sounds like he 'started it', it might be a priority to permanently move him out of this tank to a tank of his own. A good size, non toxic plastic box with a heater could be a temporary home for him while you consider what to do next. If it's not filtered, good size daily water changes will help prevent ammonia build up as will feeding him sparingly.
Keep on keeping on :good:

Hiya Liz - sorry to hear you're feeling frustrated but don't give up! If we break this down simply you have to main problems in your betta tank 1) the cycling problem, 2) the injured minnow - both of these issues are sorted by frequent water changes so just keep at it!

You may have to make a decision to either keep the betta or keep the minnows (or get a little 5G tank for the betta on his own) but for now just keep an eye on everyone's behaviour until you're confident that a problem exists. There are some bettas who are just so territorial that they won't share their tank, you may have one! The funny thing is that most aggressive bettas flare all the time and yours doesn't flare at all so that gives me hope that it may settle down in there, but maybe that's just wishful thinking :/

Even the most expereinced fishkeepers on this forum have expereinced "crisis" in their tanks you're not alone and we're all here to help you get everything back on an even keel :good:

I just really cant beleive what im going through with it, I mean ive got this poor little wcmm and its swimming about with no tail and i just dont know what to do with it!!

Get a breeding net/trap, as big as you can find and put the WCMM In it until his tail grows back. When I had young Firemouth Cichlids, the smallest got his tail bitten off, so I put him in a breeding trap and about two weeks later It had grown back so I put him back into the tank and he was absolutely fine, no more tail biting occured at all. :good:

thank you everyone for all your kind advice, hearing that other people go through it aswell im going to stick it out. Unfortunately I lost my WCMM during the night, After the Betta attack the others bullied it was weak. Still got my weak little oranda, theres nothing wrong with him he just got stressed and scared in the pond and i think he was in shock, does anyone think i could put him in with my Betta or is it a big no no?

Na that's a no-no they like totally different water temperatures and that goldfish will make your tank very dirty they produce a huge amount of ammonia which is why they need 30L per goldfish. Plus your betta might confuse the goldfish's fins for another betta and beat him up more!

thanks a lot, Think deep down i just feel sorry for him so coming up with ridicolous ideas haha, Ive had another wcmm die just a few minutes ago he died infront of my eyes it was so strange, his back end looked transparent and the other half was fine, he hasnt been attacked or anything :S :/

Mmm have you tested the water today to see how you're getting on with your water changes?

I checked them yesterday and they seemed fine but not today, I dont understand why he went transparent though it was like he had no internal organs!!!!!!!! :|

That sounds like fin rot to me, I have had guppies do that, where they go almost clear, and caught quick enough I have been able to cure with marine salt and cranking the temperature
