hi all,
I just picked up a midas blenny yesterday and it was doing so well! It never hid once i put it in the tank after acclimation, it actually swam with the group of fish and ate the food i put in. this morning i found it sitting on the sand bed breathing heavily. All the fish were swimming around happily so i checked my params and they were all normal. amm.0 nit.0 nitrate.0 ph 8.3 salinity 1.025. I then did a 20% water change just incase. After i got back home at around 3:00, it was lying on the sand bed, dead  R.I.P , but more importantly, i am determined to know what caused his death in the first place. any ideas or questions regarding the tank? ill answer ASAP.

extra information - the LFS told me they got him 2 days ago, maybe the blenny i bought doesnt go well in captivity?

thanks :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

I'm rather familiar with Midas blennies, they're rather hardy little fish. They have such attitudes
If they only just received him, he may not have had time to settle in yet there, and then being moved again was just too stressful for him. He could have been ill beforehand and just had not started showing symptoms yet. What did you do to acclimate him?

i poured a bit of water in the bag every 5-10 minutes for about 2 hours. my tube in my drip aclimation kit snapped thats why i had to pour water.

i feel like such a failure

i love blennies :)

The way you added this fish isnt ideal. Look into teh drip emthod next time. Measure the leevls of salt in teh shop water and you water. The bigger the difference the longer you should drip for as the change should be gradual.

If there isnt a big gap between the water i would suggest that something else was wrong. If it was on the sand breating heavily it sounds like it may be an 02/PH issue. Do you have some surface movement. Also how about a full list of your water stats.

Thx for reply ben,
i doubt there was a 02/PH issue cause the other fish seemed amazing but i guess anything could be possible and maybe that blenny was more vulnerable to the Ph difference from my water and the shops water, since it is already dealing with the stress from constant moving. I have a korallia 3 powerhead targeted at the surface of my water and i know this isnt ideal but i dont have all the test kits im supposed to have  . The ones i have are ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, calcium, ph, and a refractometer. what other kits should i get? the reason i dont have themn all yet is because i dont know which ones are important and which ones i can skip.

thanks
