I bought 6 about a week ago and they've been very easy so far. The tanks a 7 gallon ViaAqua 380 with big hood filter covered by filter sponge. They seem to love the fast moving water and spend all day swimming around in a group through the java moss and cabomba I use as decor (and eventually an egg trap). The temp is 75f, ph around 7 and gh/kh of nearly 0. that's natural northwest water, which seems to be good for them.

Mine came from BAS, the shop that gave Bolton their stock. Apparently they were breeding within a few days so it doesn't sound like Bolton Aquarium had much of a struggle. :)

Like chr15, mine were very dull at first. They're getting increasingly bright and about 2 now have eye-poppingly red fins. They have started spazzing out, mad shaking behaviour and pestering of females which I assume is breeding behaviour.

I feed mine live baby brine shrimp, daphnia and crushed flake. They seem content enough to feed on flake and I only use live food because I like watching them chase it and I'm sure it's good for them. I've thrown in a few female cherry shrimp and one male so they fish can eat the babies that are born.

I hear the oriental breeders are breeding them commercially now in huge outdoor ponds.

Theres an article in Pratical fishkeeping mag and more on their web.
I'm going to have a look soon.
The network sounds good, we can swap some babies and get some new blood.

.. ???? you do understand they are endangered.. and are likey to become extinct. No other fish has come close to dissapearing this fast from the wild thanks to us aquariasts. There was an L number plec that was over fished and came close.. but that took 10 years or so. These guys were only discovered in August!

The point i'm making is... that if yours do have babies you can undoubtably find a home for them. Preferably not in a shrimps stomach!

Its almost to the point where its every keepers duty to try and breed these guys.

That my view anyways
