I got some this weekend
I'm going to let them settle down for a couple of weeks before I move them into their breeding tanks.
Has anyone got any ?
I've read about them but would like to talk to someone with experience.
Thanks
Calum

I bought 3 of the tiny fella's from my LFS. 2 of em were dead within a fortnight :(
Tank stats were fine so i guess i was just unlucky....
They are so small i guess they are very sensitive to any fluctuations.
Its a shame i only have one left, i guess he is very lonely. If i see them for sale anywhere else i will buy a couple more to keep him company.

Which one do you mean this one or this one. Personally I think you are referring to this gorgeous little fella.

If you are indeed referring to the celestial pearl danio then you might find this interesting reading. About all there is known about them in one handy read. All we really need is a nice journal article from Bolton to make me happy

Enjoy the pdf then.. its an excellent read.. the microscope bit was a bit boring.. but the habitat and breeding parts were good!

i have 12 of them

very very shy fish at start (i think that them being wild neverbeing inside a glass tank (except lfs)/never really seen people dont help) but now (about 2 weeks in) they are starting to adventure out of there planted corner)

all of mine looked very faided at first but within a week they look stunning

im going to be breeding them (well attempt to breed them)

and they get feed live brine shrimp every day

there a nice fish and good luck :good:

very good looking article i will have a good read of that in the next couple of days

thanks :good:

Thanks Chris. Mine are tank bread or that's what the fish shop said, so I hope they are not wild because they have been almost depleted in there natural habitat.

i didnt ask if mine where wild or not but it was maindenhead aquatics and the person who served me said that he's not sure what to feed them and he has no idea what they (the shop) feed them then said 'thats £21 please' (for the first 6)

the only problem with tank breed galaxy's that i can see is if they are related (same parent) as there arnt that many breeders around atm

like you said about there natural habitat i felt kind of bad about getting them but thought its better me getting them wanting to breed them , than someone else getting them and throwing them in with whatever they might have

do yours come out quite abit? as in open space?

chris

I thought that it needed to be said about their habitat because that's what's needed. They need to be bred and I know that I will need to get others to stop inbreeding' so hopefully we will be succesful and can swap fish with other people.

:good: i have to agree

I've only had them this weekend so they don't come out alot.
What tank(s) do you have for breeding Chis.

they are in a 14 gallon tank which will be full of java moss (when it grows)

i have a 2.5 gallon planted nano (lots of cover at the bottam) and will be setting up a 5 gallon planted

i also have a 36x12x15 (lxwxd inches) tank in the shed set up if i need for growing on

what about you tank wise?

chris

I have 8 tanks 2 indoors and 6 in my fish house three have black barred limia in witch 2 have males in and the other females awaitting arivals the others are for the galaxy witch are 24'12'12 18'10'10 and a record 60.

i'm attempting to breed mine in a rekord 60 also ... hehe.. I found the article very useful. It even mentions flora from their habitat.

Am gona try for a lot of java moss, some anubias, cyperus helferi and elodea densa with some bogwood. Then I'll see if nature takes its course.

It may be worthwhile developing a network of breeders.... just a thought.

ps. i really doubt that shops are selling tank bred specimens already. It seems too soon for me!

i thought it seemed to soon aswell to see tank breed but i might be wrong

have you had yours long?

theres also a topic in the 'Cyprinids, Characins and Atherinids' section called 'Advice On Setting Up A Breeding Tank Please' if you would like to share any more info
