I have set up a new 10 gallon aquarium a few days ago and just bought 3 Mickey Mouse Platys.
The filter that I'm using is a 5-15 Aqua Tech. Here is my question.
I have heard that platys don't do well with lots of water movement.
The platys tonight have reached a certain spot where they must have hit the current and have backed off.
I do have a Whisper filter that is for 5-10 gallon aquariums. Should I use the Whisper? Get another type of filter,
or stay with what I have. Thank you.

I would suggest anything with less water movement. I have three mickey mouse platies in a ten gallon too. They all like my Penguin 100. It's not too big of a current.

You need to cycle your tank. I would google " Cycling Freshwater fish tanks" as it will explain better than i can, or you are at risk of loseing all your fish. If you have a friend or know someone who has a tank thats been set up for a while, ask for some of thier used filter media with bactertia on it and put that in the tank.

As kribensis12 said, the nitrogen cycle in your tank is a much more pressing problem than whether or not your fish like your filter. Go here http://www.fishforums.net/content/New-to-t...shless-Cycling/ or gogle as was suggested and figure out how to help your fish survive the next few weeks. Do not add to the fish until the cycle is complete and please don't change filters until it is complete and you have a chance to seed the new filter. What little progress you may have made with your fishy cycle and current filter will be lost if you remove your present filter.
I don't mean to seem too harsh but right now filter flow is not a problem, ammonia is a killer and will soon be present in lethal amounts if its not there yet. Please read up on the cycling process.
