Hi Erin, I found that the still born babies were born near to the end of the last few births...I don't know if this is right though. Just that this happened to my platys

it looked like a few were stillborn in the beginning how long before she is done I am anxious to see the total and get them into my fry tank

Updated totals 10 dead 52 alive and still giving birth. Whats the max a platy can have at one time? LOL i love watching it this is so great and my kids are all excited. Boy this wears you out.

PLatys can have anything from 1-150 fry depending on maturity (according to my platy book), but i personally have never seen or a platy reach the higher end, the max one of my platys had years back was well in the 80's but never had one top that.

yep it does wear you out, if her belly seems empty then she's probably done, if not then she may have a few more in there. mine had a fry stuck and we lost her, so keep an eye on her if her swollen belly doesnt return to normal size...but thats a large drop for a platy, the average is 20-30. well done x In 3 weeks they could look like this

shes still going strong she has 6 more in the breeding net making the total to 58. I notice all the babies disappeared in the fry tank for some reason they are hanging out in the rocks. Is that normal i have plants but i guess the prefer the bottom is this something to worry about or should I just keep an eye on them? Thanks!

58 is the final total yeahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! The difference in the way she looks is amazing she was so fat now shes really thin. Heres a story that i felt I needed to share with everyone to show just how mean people can be. Went to walmart today and there were hardly any fish in their tanks and they were all floating on top. Apparently someone had poured perfume in the tanks and killed most of the fish. I managed to rescue a male guppie a baby guppie and a platy. They told me that the fish probably wouldnt survive but they are hanging in there in my tank. I was actually looking for female guppies. Just wanted to make you aware of the cruelty of some people (they suspect the person is an employee). I would have took more of the survivors but dont have enough room in my tank. Thanks!

Hanging out and hiding between the gravel pieces is quite normal for our livebearers. In a wild situation, only the ones that hide well can live to grow up. Swordtails and mollies usually hide by going to floating plants and similar locations while guppies and platies hide near the bottom. All of them hide in one fashion or another for the same reason though.

Thanks oldman yeah i put all 58 in there and I cant see even one of them I will assume that they will eat the food that goes to the bottom if they are hungry. Thanks

Just be cautous with gravel slightly, if the gravel is fine gravel and deep, they fry may go in to small cracks and end up at the bottom of the gravel and never find thier way out.. i made this mistake once before, my tank use to over hang on the cabinet about 8" either end, u could see the undergravel underneath these 8" sections, il never forget looking under it one day and seeing loads of fry just swimming under the undergravel tray lol, it took me hours to empty the tank decor, then carefully remove all the gravel just to get to them, never forget that day lol (the things we do to save life
