Hi All

Starting my fish less cycle. In sticky thread about cycling it refers to test results in terms of parts per million, PPM. My test kit (maidenhead ) has all results in mg/l. Are these the same thing? Twenty odd years since school chemistry lessons and I'm rusty to say the least :)

As near as makes no difference, yes

I think there is a technical slight difference between the two, but way beyond the tolerance of our test kits!

Thanks for quick answer. Looks like I've got initial ammonia dose about right.

parts per million (ppm) is commonly converted straight to milligrams per litre (mgL-1 or mg/L) on a regular basis, and for your purposes are the same thing

parts per million in this case is one mg of X per million mg.

There happens to be a million mg in one litre of pure water.

Therefore one mg of X per litre.
