ok i have been treating my fish for white spot, i thought it had gone but its back. I've run out of the whitespot treatment, will methylene blue be ok?

What is the manufacture name of the methylene blue as some wipe the beneifical bacteria out in the filter.
Have you raised temp and increased aeration.
If you have any silk plants or ornaments I would remove them as it can stain.

methy blue is methy blue regardless of the manufacturer i think, like Asprin is Asprin. I could be wrong? would like to know if i am.

i will never have methy blue in my house again!!! it just causes too much chaos with staining including the tank itself and also being a bacteria and plant harmer i really dont see the point in the stuff, , and as far as i know, there really is no need for it, with all the other remedies on the market.

sorry that doesnt really your question, if its ALL i got and i got white spot in my tank, then i put it in, or you got dead fish anyway from untreated white spot UNLESS you can add salt and jack temp up (depends what fish you got)

I agree I don't like the stuff either it makes a mess.
The king birtish brand which I had is not meant to interfer with the filter.

Saying that wilder - I have the King British stuff, which I used once. I will never use it again, or certainly not in the tank. I started getting ammonia readings very quickly after using it and lost a loach.

Will a 'fish bath' in the stuff do the same ? I.e. ice cream tub (No ice cream in though :) ) with some tank water and meth blue in it and put the fish in there for 10 mins do the same ?

Right well i didnt use it just because i didnt really trust it

the white spot seems to be going now anyways though which is strange.

i'll be getting some treatment tomorrow for it anyways

did you use half dose as reccomended with the loach?

i personally have had success with the king british brand, used it on my tetras but could only use half due to having a loach, never had any problems from it :good:

whatever you use it needs to be done twice with about 5 days in between. the bug that causes white spot is only vulnerable when it is in the free swilling form, there is no point treating the fish, its the water/tank the vulnerable white spot lives in and the only place you can kill it!

sorry to be so abrupt on this, but 5 minutes research on the net will reveal all.

after treatment adding a uv unit, may help avoid further break outs.

NO.

Meth Blue is NOT particularly effective against Ich and is likely to mess up your biofilter.

Use a Mal Green-based medication. With Loaches, it is best to use a Mal Green+Salt combo drugs, like Ich Guard or Nox, halfdosing. Drugs made in the UK generally do not list the components, so should be avoided.
