Tank arrived Thursday. Didn't do anything to it Thursday other than set up the cabinet and put the tank on top of it and bought and washed a bag of play sand.
Original plan was to use a foil background and save money but I am such a huge fan of structured backgrounds and so today I bought 2 x Juwel structured backgrounds at 550 X 600 per piece.
Knowing they would be short at the corners, I took the decision to carve around some of the rock shapes and put a black background right at the back corner to make it look like the depths of a rocky cave.
I actually think it looks awesome and very happy with the result indeed.
Whilst I was at LFS this morning I noticed some small pieces of slate dumped outside on the ground, so me and the kids thieved a few bits ;-) all between 1-3" and will make a few little nice caves for the cories
Next I faffed and fiddled about with the tank lid to make holes to put my external filter pipes into. I am glad with the way they've turned out, had an awesome drill bit in the tool box that was perfect for it. Very pointed in the centre but flat on both sides and it slowly bores a hole that just pops out when it's weakened.
The filter's been cleaned and reassembled and is now fitting nicely into the cupboard underneath. Really happy with how snugly the intake and spray bar fit considering all the rockwork behind them, they sit perfectly.
I've removed most of the plants from the 4ft tank and put them in a snap top bucket. I've shocked myself with how many bits of bogwood were hiding in the tank. Will be selling about 6 pieces of mopani on B&S forum over the weekend!
Tomorrow the water and fish are coming out of the 4ft and going in the Trigon. So more pics then folks.
