I've wanted one of these Mbuna for a long time now but have always avoided them when they have been available (which is not often), due to their reputation as the most aggressive of all the Mbuna. My LFS recently got some juveniles in and I decided to take the plunge.
My current Mbuna tank is well established (3 years) and the current inhabitants are all adult fish and all aggressive species themselves so if i was ever going to get a Chipokae, the time was now. The other fish are very settled with each other and can all take care of themselves and as the Chipokae is only 1 inch he is no threat to them.
He has settled in very well, my Johanni chased him a bit (no surprise there) but this guy is fast, i've never seen an Mbuna move this quick.
. There may be some conflict between these 2 further down the line being from the same genus but my Johanni is a female and the Chipokae is male so their appearance will be quite different when the Chipokae changes from his current yellow and black to mostly black with some purple stripes, my Johanni is pale blue with the "electric" blue stripes.
Anyway, thought i'd share this with you as i'm chuffed to bits.
