I've used melafix with my goldfish for a while, i bought it when a gold fish i had a few years a go got some fin-rot and it got rid of it quite fast. Since then i've been adding a drop or two of melafix into the tank once a month or so during partial water changes. I've now got a 30 litre tank with 7 zebra danio and 3 cherry shrimp, i've used it once because a small amount of fungus was growing on the bottom of the tank and it got rid of it within a few days... is it a good idea to regularly add it to the tank? i thought it would keep fungus from growing but i'd just like some advice, can it be harmful at all? or damage nitrifying bacteria (i've been having cycling problems so i definately dont want to damage the bacteria)

I'm curious about this as well. Interesting concept.

I don't know but does fish bacteria and stuff like that work in the same way a ours, like the bacteria will adapt to make itself live? So regularly adding it will make all the nasties evolve so it is not affected by melafix anymore.

The same principle is very similar to that of the common flu. That will evolve so that our defence systems can't kill it.

Just a thought.
