Melafix

Hi,

I have a 180 litre tank currently housing a couple of battle scarred malawi cichlids, which also houses a pleco. I treated the tank with melafix and it seems to have sent the pleco high, dashing about the tank

I've treated 2 doses.

Is this normal? Could he be stressed (he looks happy enough)?

Hmmmm... I've had this rection with my Hoplo's, it seems to last a few minutes, I think its because they are more chemically sensitive than some other fish, I don't think its doing him any harm (unless he is injuring himself/others).

I tend to add some stress coat first, wait a few hours, and then add melafix - this should (in theory) attack any possible infectons in a 'hammer and anvil' tactic - i.e. increased/restored mucus coating retards advancement of some known pathogens, while melafix increses the rate of healing.

Have had good luck with frequent water changes with regards to most injuries.
Fish often have amazing capabilities of healing themselves .
