so it was suggested to use melafix to stop my fish tails from gettin infected(they had been after each other) . what dosage and time of use would you reccommend for general antibacterial use?

im pretty sure wilder said not to bother with it, just keep ur water clean and it should heals itself up

plus ur doing ick treatment atm, so u cant dose with melafix anyway

also for general anti bacterial, etc i use general tonic by interpet

but u must remove carbon and zeolite before use

again theres no point until your ick treatment is complete and ur water quality is good

oh no.. im nto going to use it at the same time!! lol

i jus wanted some more opinions.. i respect his opinion.. but he also said its good to stop a infection from appearing just not to cure a infection....

just making sure.. many opinions couldnt hurt..

i think u might find wilder is a she lol

it is but u might want to think carefully and get your water right b4 throwin all sorts of chemicals in

personally i wouldnt use melafix unless fins were really bad and not healing

for general fish health a general tonic would suffice and liquid vitamins

also a good healthy varied diet

Wilder is a lady! ;)
I've used Melafix combined with Pimafix before when my male had his fin shredded at the lfs. It took about two weeks before it started to grow back and it did prevent finrot from setting in.
As already suggested though, keeping the water clean will also help the fin heal itself. :)

wouldnt u say tho stang that when using melafix etc only use it for severe cases?

ooo.. im sorry.. i meant to say she  eh!!

thanx.. ive never heard that advice b4... but yea.. once i finish the ick treatment ill start them on some liquid vitamins n etc...

i have them on a varied diet right now.. bloodwroms occasionally.. pellets and betta flakes.... i switch it up.. they dont like the betta pellets that much... i think the corys at the bottom like them more than the bettas lol :shifty:

but im gonna buy some more for them to vary it up a little more... but im afraid wat i buy them they wont each... you know how picky they can be...

best thing ive found it rub the new food in garlic concentrate if they dont eat it

they soon get a taste for it

plus garlic is fantastic for their immune system

I would only use it if it was quite bad and showed no signs of healing. I'm not keen on using any chemicals/meds in my tank unless I really need to.
My poor VT boy had the same length fin as a Plakat after the Zebra Danios had nipped at him. :( I took him home and treated straight away to ensure finrot didn't set in as he was in such a sorry state.

my girls fins look as if their not healing real well.. but im gonna give it time before i add anymore chemicals in the tank....

awww oh dear, least hes all better now :)

im not one for using meds unless i have too, dave is on meds bcoz he just isnt gettinf better with bloating etc, but that was after tryin to help using pea and fasting

inlovewithfish, finish ur ick treatment, and keep ur water clean, fins should be fine :good:

thanx.. well at least i kno in case i ever need it, i have plenty of melafix around lol...

thanx 4 the advice.. hopefully i wont have anymore fish deaths and can replace those girls later

melafix can be used in combination with most other meds, as its not a manufactured chemical, but only tea tree oil, so you could use it now if you wanted to. personally i find it really helpful for fin damage, but not too good against actual fin rot. but it does promote healing so can help fins regrow faster, although obviously you need the good clean water too,

yep.. i have good clean water right now... but ill give it a chance to heal a bit on its own and depending on the progress ill use he melafix to help it along.. my fishies are quite happy right now.. even with ick present.. their looking up and much happier today... swimming around and playing.. not swimming to much with clamped fins.. im seeing those beautiful tails...
