I have a tank with honey gouramis, guppys and corydoras. I just bought one albino corydora and unforunately, it was only when I got home that I noticed that a couple of the fins were worn away. I wasn't sure whether it had been attacked in the fish shop, or has fin rot, so I have added some Melafix.

The label on the Melafix also recommends Primafix, so I'm thinking of getting that too. I noticed on a couple of my other corydoras that they were looking slightly red on the base of their pelvic fins.

Should I also be using any general treatments on a regular basis after I finish the course of Melafix and Primafix? I've just bought a small bottle of 'general fish tonic' from Pets at Home which says to use once a month as a preventative measure, though haven't tried this yet.

Someone can correct me if im wrong but your basically asking if you should premedicating for preventative measures correct? Lets hypotetically say i have a cold. I take my cold medicine and it goes away but i think to myself well if i keep taking it once in a while it should help me from getting a cold right? Not nessacarily, if anything it is lowering my immunity to that medication to where i may have to take more of it the next time to get myself better. Samething with the fish the more you use it the less they like it and the less likely it is to work. (At least i would think)

I'm thinking along the lines of something similar to what humans use as vitamins. Eat 5 fruit/veg, take your vitamines, an apple a day keeps the doctor away etc etc.

I figured this was similar to what the 'general fish tonic' from Pets at Home would be useful for.

well like i said im not positive but i wouldnt do it. Im pretty sure i have read that you shouldnt medicate unless you need to but im not sure which post it was in. I would wait for stronger advice.
