Meet My Newest Addition..........

wow someone bumped my old thread! eugene has been dead for quite a while now, and yes he was named after my.crabbs from spongebob :)

At least when someone asks you if you got crabs you can honestly reply NO now.

How are they in a community tank I see you think the angels got em but I find it hard to believe they did it when you have much smaller prey in the tank. Reason I ask is the wife is adamant on getting one.

Ive had 5 neons and 3 angels together for a while, no one fights at all.

I used to have a couple of red claw crabs which is what Eugene was, also kept them in a community tank with smaller fish such as guppies, if anything I found the fish were more at risk from the crabs than the other way around! I had them for about 6months or so and they shed their skin and grew ( I often thought they were dead when I found their skin too! ) but then they reappeared, I did find that they needed an area of land to get out of the water though and are not truly aquatic as most people think, so I made them a little beach area with some bogwood sticking out of the water and then attaching a tray to it filled with sand, they spent alot of time up there, just make sure you have a tight fitting lid! they both died in the end and yes I made sure it wasn't just a moult! the smell gave it away  although I also read that they don't survive too long in a freshwater environment as they would do if there salt in the water, although I was under the impression they were freshwater crabs? still of the few months I had them I found them to be fascinating little creatures :good:
