Does anyone have experience with medicated fish food? I see that Jungle Labs has both anti-bacterial and anti parasite food available.

You feed it exclusively to the fish for three straight days once a week for 4 weeks. Will it work? Is is a good idea to treat the aquarium with this food after adding fish?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this ? I would be intereted in hearing your comments too.

Internal protizoans are something cichlids, especially angels & discus, are prone to. I've been mixing metronidazole into frozen brine shrimp to treat this for years, with excellent results.

What disease are you trying to treat Wolfwolf? Are the medicated foods designed to treat the particular issue that you are having to deal with? If so I would think it's worth a try. As a preventive it would be every bit as good an idea as the antibiotics that they used to feed to cattle before the government banned it. It kept the animals free of some diseases when they first started doing it until resistant strains developed and then disease became even harder to treat. Any use of medications as a preventive, not vaccines but medications, is not a good idea because it makes all diseases harder to treat in the long run.

I agree with OldMan47 100%. You risk creating drug resistant strains by medicating for diseases you do not have yet. These can be hard to treat, and expensive as far as meds are concerned.

Medicating for 3 days, stopping for 4 days, and continuing this cycle three times is the oddest medication procedure I have heard of in a while, after looking at their site they recommend that protocol for the anti-parasitic flake, but not for the antibiotic flake. I certainly wouldn't use either as any sort of preventative.

If you're sure you have a problem that the food is sutied for, I'd use it. I've used medigold with goldfish that have had internal bacterial infections and it is fantastic. But you HAVE to make sure the eat it right away and eat it for the full time peroid suggested.

Its a good med. Most Jungle Lab stuff is crap, but this one isnt, i've had good results, and so have freinds who've used it.

Just to be clear I haven't tried the medicated food. I was asking on the forum before I tried it at all.

As far as price I saw it for ~$3.50 for a bottle. If the bottle had normal fish food in it I would guess it to be a 3 month supply for my fish.

I am curently treating what I believe to be septicemia in a tank. So far I have 1 dead fish. However I am using maracyn and maracyn 2.
