Hiya all

My 20 gal has just cycled,it has 2 filters in there(aquaflow 100 and eheim aquaball 2006) would this media(or squeezings of it) help along my fishless cycle in my 30l tank?

I have a bio sponge filter run by an airpump in the 30l,and seems to be sticking on 0.25 for both ammonia/nitrite at the 12 hr mark, just wondered if this would help fishless cycle along?

Or would the filter media from 20 gal not be mature enough yet?

:thanks:

why dont you just put the fillter media from the 20l into the fillter in the 30l
or have a look on hear and see if someone will give you some muture fillter media http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=150631

There's nobody local to me on the list for mature media, it's not easy to to put the filter media from the 20 gal to the filter on the 30l has its just a cylinder sponge, unless i tie it on?,would removing the filter media from newly cycled 20 gal affect it at all?

i dont have a clue if it would afect the tank ive never done a fishles cylce i just use the maedia i alredy have now and i set up my tanks before i knew anout cycling it

If you are already seeing good progress on the new filter, you won't gain much trying to seed it again. It just needs time to develop. The seeding you are talking about might have made a huge difference in the beginning but won't affect much once you are already processing ammonia and nitrites fairly well.

Ok thanks oldman47 :good: thats what i wanted to know!

Squeezing it out won't hurt the new tank but it might cause the newly cycled tank to lose some effectiveness. I wouldn't bother myself.

Certainly do not put the media from the cycled tank into the new tank - it won't have sufficient remaining media to recover.

Thats what i was thinking but i thought i'd ask to be on the safe side,i'll just have to be patient and leave 30l tank to cycle, its just my platy is pregnant and i was hoping to use it has a fry tank if i manage to save any

thanks :good:
