So this month has been a terrible one for my fish and I feel the need to vent
One of my external filters split in two, don't know if it got hit or it got hot or what but huge crack round the case. Lucky I got home when I did because my 7' tank was draining rapidly onto my floor...
My heater's thermostat went crazy (possibly due to the dropped water level although it was never exposed. got home to a tank at 35 degrees (has been a 25-27 tank.)
The pile of aquarium glass in my garage that I was tempted to turn into a huge tank fell over. I now have enough glass for a 60x18x18 (you'll see why this is relevant later) and a load of broken glass.
A pot of fish pellets fell into my bala guppy tank (may have been my fault but I have no idea how it happened) on a week where I was away for 5 days rather than the usual 3. Nitrates 80-160.
My 7 foot tank developed a crack (stand my have bowed from the water leak). Ok, no problem, patch it up with some sealant, right? moved fish to a smaller tank (balas are still short for now) drained tank. Got a guy round to put sealant in. He used non aquarium safe sealant. Had that stripped, had the glass cleaned. Got a guy from the LFS to sell me the right sealant, got my brother round. No idea what he did wrong but the front of the tank started to crack more. 3 repair attempts later, tank is in pieces with the rest of my broken glass. Have taken what glass I had left to a guy to get made into the longest tank I can.
Lost a guppy due to nitrates, heat spikes, tank move stress.
Two of my guppies look like they may have fin rot. They've had ragged fins but I can't tell, will try to picture them later for help diagnosing.
My small tank is evaporating an inch of water a week, I make sure the tank is full sunday morning, get back on thursday and water level has dropped, despite the fact I can't get it quite up to temperature... meaning my spraybar is terrifying my balas by the time I get back to the house...
My nerites have FILLED my 400 litre tank with eggs (not brackish so they won't hatch) but it looks like my tank has been sprinkled with cornflour, every rock and plant...
Oh and my pleco won't eat cucumber...only a minor annoyance but still.
And I spilt my coffee while typing this post.
