As usual, managed to get out of a haircut early so you can guess where I snuck off too... the LFS just had new fish in and I picked up ANOTHER betta. This time it's a crowntail male, solid yellow, double ray, possibly crossray. Far too thin and I don't think he's eating, but I'm sure I'll find something (bloodworms, failing that, live mozzie larvae) that will get some weight on him until I can wean him onto Hikari pellets.

I'll try and get some photos, he's a real stunner. He looked a bit washed out in the little cup, especially since he'd recently arrived at the LFS, but now he looks like a ripe banana...

OMG OMG OMG! I'm happiER!!!

My silver CT pair is wrapping! I've been trying to get them to breed for a few days, and I was getting quite worried because every time I let her out the male beat the crap out of her. He's quite old, older than I would prefer. I conditioned two weeks, but I stuffed the female full of bloodworm this arvo and she's so fat now that I think it's set him off, he's trying to wrap her instead of trying to kill her. No eggs yet, he doesn't seem to have gotten the hang of it. You know how the female is supposed to sit motionless at the top when he lets go of her? Well it's HIM doing that. No eggs, but the nest is enormous and so is the female, so now... the waiting game!

Got one last night but it looks really bad, I'll have to wait and see.

Still no eggs... the male doesn't appear to be squashing the female hard enough.
I think I'm glad I'm not a betta.

Well there goes attempt THREE... I've been TRYING but they never seem to breed for me. The missing scales have made it too painful, so she won't let the male near her. I've separated the pair. AGAIN. This is getting quite frustrating, no matter what I do something always seems to go wrong. No eggs were laid and the female is huge. I hope she doesn't end up eggbound.

I must say, I'm glad you're not a betta, too.
Or me either, come to that.

We must remember that practice makes perfect - and it sounds as though he's doing better each try.
So hopefully you'll be posting soon about the enormous spawn and the 4000 little silver wigglers you're breaking your back over.

Have I seen pictures of the new top banana yet?
It must be my recall failing, or perhaps I haven't come across them yet, because you'd never leave us all in suspense this long...

I wouldn't, but my CAMERA would. Stupid thing. I'll get some photos when I can.

I got a few more bloodworms down him, but he's waaaaay too thin... I don't know if I should get worried or not.
