Being that these guys come from Lake Malawi I am correct in assuming that their natural enviroment is that of calmer waters rather than strong current?

I have two filters running on my tank that are currently pumping out water at the top of the tank, with the aim of leaving the middle and bottom of the tank a little calmer. Is this right??

I can, if need be move my fluval 304 outlet down further to pump out water around the middle section of the tank.

Would my fish prefer a nice strong current to swim through or am i set up correctly as is??

any help appreciated. Cheers

steve

These fish have no problem with the current at all. I make sure there's good current at the bottom - this keeps debris off the sand and in the filters where it belongs.

Yep, blow the little buggers around the tank, mine love it!

I have a fluval +3 and fluval +2 filters. The flow is low on the +2 at one end of the tank and full on the +3 with maximum aeration. Creates a really powerful flow and the fish love it, they queue up to take turns swimming against it!

Edit: Flow is at the top of the tank. Also have a large airstone which provides a bit of upward current, they seem to love that too.

Mine is nothing so elaborate - it's simply a mix of powerheads and filters pointed in the right places. It can take some experimentation, time to see where the dead spots are and waste collects, then I act accordingly by moving hardware around or adding more.

Is all of this along the bottom? I'd like to try something out in my tank seeing as though I get almost nothing out when i syphon and becasue of my sand gravel mix and my rocks arenot going anywhere, but i don't have much room down there.

Thanks I hope I didn't hijack this too much
